This page converts a JPG photo into a PNG in your browser. PNG is lossless, so re-saving will not add another layer of JPEG artefacts, but the file is usually much larger. Choose your JPG, the workbench re-encodes it as PNG, and you compare the two before downloading. The conversion runs on your device and the image is never uploaded. This pair suits images that need a lossless container; for sending a photo onward, a smaller format is often the better choice.
- Output: lossless. PNG stores the pixels exactly, so the output adds no new compression artefacts — it cannot recover detail the original JPG had already lost.
- Transparency: a JPG has no transparency, so the PNG output is fully opaque.
- Animation: a JPG is a single frame, and the PNG output is one still image.
- Metadata: re-encoding in your browser drops the original EXIF, GPS, and camera metadata.
- Quality control: a lossless PNG has no quality dial; the file keeps your dimensions, so expect a larger download than the source JPG.
