This page turns a JPG photo into a WebP file on your device. WebP usually reaches a smaller file at similar visible quality, which helps page weight and upload limits. Choose your JPG, the workbench re-encodes it as WebP, and you compare the two side by side before you download. Nothing is uploaded; the conversion runs in this browser tab. The tool keeps the original pixel dimensions, so crop, resize, or compress first if the destination also asks for a particular size.
- Output: lossy. WebP is written here in its lossy form, trading a little detail for the smaller size; WebP can also be lossless, but this page does not switch to that mode.
- Transparency: a JPG has no transparency, so there is none to carry over and the WebP output stays fully opaque.
- Animation: a JPG is one still frame, and the output is one still image.
- Metadata: re-encoding in your browser drops the original EXIF, GPS, and camera metadata from the exported file.
- Quality control: the tool re-compresses at a fixed quality and keeps your dimensions; judge the result with the before/after preview and the download size.
