This page converts a PNG image to WebP in your browser. PNG is lossless but often large; WebP usually produces a smaller file, which helps page weight and size limits. Pick your PNG, the workbench re-encodes it as WebP, and you compare the two before downloading. The image never leaves your device, and the conversion runs in this tab. Use the other local tools first if you also need to crop, resize, or compress the result.
- Output: lossy. WebP is written in its lossy form here, trading a little detail for size; WebP's lossless mode is not used on this page.
- Transparency: PNG transparency is preserved, because both PNG and WebP carry an alpha channel.
- Animation: the PNG here is a still image; if the source is animated, only the first frame is converted.
- Metadata: re-encoding removes the original metadata, because the browser writes a fresh file.
- Quality control: a fixed quality is used and the pixel dimensions are kept; check the before/after preview and the download size.
